Electricity Cost Calculator
Work out what any appliance costs to run per hour, day, month or year — at your state's actual rate.
How it works
The calculator uses the standard energy formula, with one addition most online calculators leave out:
- W — watts the appliance draws while working
- D — duty cycle, the share of "on" time it actually draws that power
- H — hours per day it is switched on
- N — days per year you use it
- R — your electricity rate in dollars per kWh
Duty cycle is what separates a realistic estimate from a wild one. A space heater switched on for eight hours does not draw 1,500 W for eight hours — its thermostat cycles it off once the room is warm. Skipping that step overstates the cost of every thermostat-controlled appliance in the house, which is most of the expensive ones.
Each preset carries a duty cycle measured against published consumption figures. Override the wattage to match your own model's label — it is printed on the nameplate, usually on the back or underside.
